Chaos by James Gleick
- I roughly had an idea about mathematical modelling but this book really takes you to the limits of what mathematics can do and the difficultly in modelling real world non linear systems. - The chapters in the book starts from fields of science and engineering where you would see meteorologists or biologists how when they go to edge of their respective fields . - Once unpredictability sets in while trying to understand climate or turbulence of smoke coming out of jet the system output becomes totally unpredictable with noise kicking in to make any measurements meaningful. - Overall this book is not a light read but explores a different dimension of the boundary that exists between mathematics and the real world. - You would encounter terms like butterfly effect, strange attractors and Feigenbaum constants and as you keep reading you would get a sense of what it means. - Definitely a worth while read. You get a great sense of respect for the complexity that exists in the r...
